What is a Laparoscopy?

A laparoscopy is a global term for ‘key hole surgery’. It is a minimally invasive surgical procedure and involves small 5mm incisions in the abdomen as opposed to a larger incision. A small camera called a laparoscope is inserted into the abdomen through the bellybutton to allow visualisation of the pelvis. A further three additional 5mm incisions are placed in your abdomen to allow use of surgical instruments to perform the necessary surgery.
